And where we are going...

2011 looks like being pretty busy trip-wise. We've done the short trip to test the camper out to the Douglas-Daly Park at the end of March where it was lovely and wet.

Easter 2011 : Darwin to Alice Springs, leaving the boys at Pawz n Clawz Pet Resort for seven days, then on to Rainbow Valley, Yulara, Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Owen Springs Reserve and Trephina Gorge, back to Alice to pick the boys up and back home. Gotta love Easter, Anzac Day and May Day all together - take 4 days off and get 14! Our intention to go to Finke National Park and the Henbury Meteorites was spoiled by all the late rain, and both places weren't open. Ah well, another time.

July/August 2011 : Cape York was on the agenda, but with all the rain in Central Australia we figured now would be the best time in years to see Lake Eyre in flood, and the desert country alive with wildflowers and birds. And, from recent experience, no doubt mice. So we shall tackle the Oodnadatta and Birdsville Tracks - not sure which way we will go yet.

December 2011 : Brisbane for Christmas with Rachel's family for 10 days. Well, maybe not all of them for the whole time, we're thinking maybe three or four days SOMEWHERE - Sunshine Coast hinterland, Gold Coast hinterland, Tweed Coast hinterland, maybe back to the Granite Belt region or out to the Bunya Mountains or O'Reilly's. Too many choices!

What's on the horizon, in no particular order :
  • Great Ocean Road
  • Victoria High Country
  • Flinders Ranges
  • Granite Belt, SE QLD
  • Atherton Tablelands
  • Cape Leveque
  • Carnarvon Gorge
  • Fraser Island
  • Arnhem Land
...and the rest...

Locally, Depot Creek will get a run on a weekend or two, and probably Gunn Point and Dundee for a bit of beach action.
